Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
